Drink Down Some Sunshine!

Drink down some sunshine!

Getting out into the sun is the best way to help your body produce vitamin D-3, a naturally occurring fat-soluble vitamin made by your skin. As we all know, sometimes soaking up some rays even for fifteen to twenty minutes a day can be almost impossible. So, another way to consume vitamin D-3 is to take a supplement or vitamin D-3 can be found in some cereals, dairy foods, and fatty seafood.

There are many benefits of vitamin D-3. Having enough of it in your system allows you to prevent osteoporosis and osteoarthritis in your later years, and helps promote strong teeth. This is because the body needs vitamin D-3 to help it absorb a very important mineral, which is calcium. Although there is no definitive proof out there yet, several studies have found that vitamin D-3 can reduce the risk of colon, breast and skin cancers.

There has been speculation that vitamin D-3 may also be a huge benefit to people who suffer from SAD or Seasonal Affective Disorder. Hundreds of thousands of people experience this depression during the dark and dreary days of late fall and winter. You may wonder how a vitamin could treat this condition.

The idea is that since sunlight activates your body to produce vitamin D-3, lack of sunshine in these months causes the levels to drop. Taking a vitamin supplement of vitamin D-3 could possibly give your brain the same effects that natural sunlight gives you.

As an athlete vitamin D-3 is important so that your body can build strong and healthy bones. All those muscles need to hold on to something strong!
